Backdate this one to Friday, 22 February.
Well, well, well. I had my first adventure to the Royal Opera House tonight.
In hindsight it was a good evening out with my friend Nataly and new friend Kitty and her friend (oops, I forgot her name). I really enjoyed the ad campaign that the ROH has this year following along the superhuman theme. Very dramatic and very good.
I will try and get some pictures of it to post here.
Oh, and I enjoyed the performance, but it's not what you might expect.
I didn't go to see the opera (too expensive), nor the ballet (I didn't like what was on). Instead I went to see Dragon Tongue Squad, this Chinese rap/hip-hop trio from Beijing. I have never seen anything like it. I don't think you have either.
The quality of their rap was good (you could tell they were pros in China), but they seemed to be caught in a bit of a time warp. The lead singer (is that what you call him? or should it be rapper?), Kirby Lee, was decked out in a backwards flourescent baseball cap - tag still attached just in case it didn't wow the crowds - neon sunglasses a la Sunjammers style and the biggest faux gold medallion in the WORLD. No, really, this thing was bigger than his head but smaller than a bin lid. The other two were a little bit more realistic and less cartoonish. Maybe I'm being a bit too hard on them - I don't even like rap, but thought it time to expand my horizons.
So, if you're looking for something new to tickle your eardrums, download some Chinese rap.
